The Screen Lock implementation in Apple Mac OS X before 10.9 does not immediately accept Keychain Status menu Lock Screen commands, and instead incorrectly relies on a certain timeout setting, which allows physically proximate attackers to obtain sensitive information by reading a screen that should have transitioned into the locked state.

The "Lock Screen" command in the Keychain Status menu bar item did not take effect until after the "Require password [amount of time] after sleep or screen saver begins" setting had elapsed.This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-5187 since 08/15/2013. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
