The Screen Lock implementation in Apple Mac OS X before 10.9, when hibernation and autologin are enabled, does not require a password for a transition out of hibernation, which allows physically proximate attackers to obtain access by visiting an unattended workstation in the hibernating state.

A Mac with hibernation and autologin enabled may allow waking from hibernation without prompting for a password. This issue was addressed through improved lock handling.This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-5188 since 08/15/2013. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
