A vulnerability was found in ImageMagick 7.0.7-12 (Image Processing Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function ReadPSDChannelZip of the file coders/psd.c. In ImageMagick 7.0.7-12 Q16, an infinite loop vulnerability was found in the function ReadPSDChannelZip in coders/psd.c, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU exhaustion) via a crafted psd image file.
The bug was discovered 11/20/2017. The weakness was disclosed 12/14/2017 by Security Team (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2017-17681 since 12/13/2017. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 170848 (OpenSUSE Security Update for ImageMagick (openSUSE-SU-2018:0396-1)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 2 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
