A vulnerability was found in Ffmpeg and Libav 2.1/9.10 (Multimedia Processing Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function decrypt_init of the file decrypt_init of the component GEOB Data Size Handler. The impact remains unknown.
The weakness was disclosed 11/04/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk and Gynvael Coldwind with Google Security Team. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version omadec: check GEOB sizes against buffer size eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at git.libav.org. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be patching the affected component. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
