A vulnerability has been found in Microsoft Office 2003/2007 (Office Suite Software) and classified as very critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file epsimp32.flt. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 and 2007 SP3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted WordPerfect document (.wpd) file, aka "WPD File Format Memory Corruption Vulnerability."

The issue has been introduced in 11/17/2003. The weakness was released 11/12/2013 by Merliton as MS13-091 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0082 since 11/27/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/02/2021).

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3648 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70849 (MS13-091: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2885093)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110225 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS13-091)).
