The CERT_VerifyCert function in lib/certhigh/certvfy.c in Mozilla Network Security Services (NSS) 3.15 before 3.15.3 provides an unexpected return value for an incompatible key-usage certificate when the CERTVerifyLog argument is valid, which might allow remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via a crafted certificate.
The weakness was released 11/13/2013 by Camilo Viecco with Mozilla as Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2013-103 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-5606 since 08/26/2013. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
