An exploitable improper authorization vulnerability exists in miner_setEtherbase API of cpp-ethereum's JSON-RPC (commit 4e1015743b95821849d001618a7ce82c7c073768). A JSON request can cause an access to the restricted functionality resulting in authorization bypass.
The bug was discovered 01/09/2018. The weakness was released 01/19/2018 by Cisco with Cisco Talos (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-12115 since 07/31/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
