An exploitable improper authorization vulnerability exists in miner_setGasPrice API of cpp-ethereum's JSON-RPC (commit 4e1015743b95821849d001618a7ce82c7c073768). A JSON request can cause an access to the restricted functionality resulting in authorization bypass. An attacker can send JSON to trigger this vulnerability.
The bug was discovered 01/09/2018. The weakness was disclosed 01/19/2018 by Cisco with Cisco Talos (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2017-12116 since 07/31/2017. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1548.002 for this issue.
