A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg 2.0.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function g2m_init_buffers of the file libavcodec/g2meet.c of the component Array Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was released 09/21/2013 by Piotr Bandurski (ami_stuff) as avcodec/g2meet: Fix framebuf size as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.videolan.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.videolan.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
