A vulnerability was found in FFmpeg 2.0.1 (Multimedia Processing Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function g2m_init_buffers of the file libavcodec/g2meet.c of the component Array Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
The weakness was published 09/15/2013 by Piotr Bandurski (ami_stuff) as avcodec/g2meet: Fix order of align and pixel size multiplication. as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at git.videolan.org. The public release has been coordinated with the project team. The attack can only be done within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.videolan.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
