A vulnerability was found in Quagga BGP Daemon up to 1.2.2 (Network Routing Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Notify Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The Quagga BGP daemon (bgpd) prior to version 1.2.3 does not properly bounds check the data sent with a NOTIFY to a peer, if an attribute length is invalid. Arbitrary data from the bgpd process may be sent over the network to a peer and/or bgpd may crash.
The bug was discovered 02/15/2018. The weakness was published 02/19/2018 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5378 since 01/12/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
