Affected by this vulnerability is the function OneClickSigninHelper::ShowInfoBarIfPossible of the file ui/sync/one_click_signin_helper.cc of the component 302 Redirect Handler. The OneClickSigninHelper::ShowInfoBarIfPossible function in browser/ui/sync/one_click_signin_helper.cc in Google Chrome before 31.0.1650.63 uses an incorrect URL during realm validation, which allows remote attackers to conduct session fixation attacks and hijack web sessions by triggering improper sync after a 302 (aka Found) HTTP status code.
The weakness was disclosed 11/21/2013 by Andrey Labunets (Cloudfuzzer) as 307159 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Google. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2013-6634 since 11/05/2013. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a private exploit are known.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74861 (openSUSE Security Update : chromium (openSUSE-SU-2013:1933-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166599 (OpenSuSE Security Update for Chromium (openSUSE-SU-2013:1927-1)).
Upgrading to version 31.0.1650.63 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
