A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been declared as problematic. In Wireshark 2.2.0 to 2.2.12 and 2.4.0 to 2.4.4, the DMP dissector could go into an infinite loop. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-dmp.c by correctly supporting a bounded number of Security Categories for a DMP Security Classification.
The bug was discovered 02/22/2018. The weakness was released 02/23/2018 as Bug 14408 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-7421 since 02/22/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
