A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Docker Notary (Virtualization Software). Affected by this issue is the function checkRoot of the file gotuf/client/client.go of the component Comment Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a unrestricted upload vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-434. In Docker Notary before 0.1, the checkRoot function in gotuf/client/client.go does not check expiry of root.json files, despite a comment stating that it does. Even if a user creates a new root.json file after a key compromise, an attacker can produce update files referring to an old root.json file.
