A vulnerability was found in PoDoFo 0.9.5 (Document Reader Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function PdfDocument::Append of the file PdfDocument.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. An issue was discovered in PoDoFo 0.9.5. The function PdfDocument::Append() in PdfDocument.cpp in PoDoFo 0.9.5 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) via a crafted PDF document.
The bug was discovered 05/08/2018. The weakness was published 05/18/2018 by Agostino Sarubbo (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-11256 since 05/18/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
