A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Wireshark 2.6.0 (Packet Analyzer Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file epan/dissectors/packet-rtcp.c of the component RTCP Dissector. The manipulation as part of a Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. In Wireshark 2.6.0, the RTCP dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-rtcp.c by avoiding a buffer overflow for packet status chunks.
The bug was discovered 05/22/2018. The weakness was disclosed 05/22/2018 as Bug 14673 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugs.wireshark.org.
