In Wireshark 2.6.0, 2.4.0 to 2.4.6, and 2.2.0 to 2.2.14, the LTP dissector and other dissectors could consume excessive memory. This was addressed in epan/tvbuff.c by rejecting negative lengths.
The bug was discovered 05/22/2018. The weakness was shared 05/22/2018 as Bug 14678 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-11357 since 05/21/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
