Wireshark up to 2.6.0 Q.931 Dissector packet-q931.c Malformed Packet use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the file epan/dissectors/packet-q931.c of the component Q.931 Dissector. The manipulation as part of a Malformed Packet leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In Wireshark 2.6.0, 2.4.0 to 2.4.6, and 2.2.0 to 2.2.14, the Q.931 dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-q931.c by avoiding a use-after-free after a malformed packet prevented certain cleanup.

The bug was discovered 05/22/2018. The weakness was published 05/22/2018 as Bug 14689 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugs.wireshark.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-11358 since 05/21/2018. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
