A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown part of the file epan/proto.c of the component RRC Dissector. In Wireshark 2.6.0, 2.4.0 to 2.4.6, and 2.2.0 to 2.2.14, the RRC dissector and other dissectors could crash. This was addressed in epan/proto.c by avoiding a NULL pointer dereference.
The bug was discovered 05/22/2018. The weakness was released 05/22/2018 as Bug 14703 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-11359 since 05/21/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
