A vulnerability was found in Zoho ManageEngine Applications Manager 12/13 (Log Management Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file /DiagAlertAction.do?REQTYPE=AJAX/LIMIT=1233. The manipulation of the argument LIMIT as part of a Parameter leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability (Reflected). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. ManageEngine Applications Manager versions 12 and 13 suffer from a Reflected Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability. Applications Manager is prone to a Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability in parameter LIMIT, in URL path /DiagAlertAction.do?REQTYPE=AJAX&LIMIT=1233. The URL is also available without authentication.
The bug was discovered 04/04/2017. The weakness was shared 06/05/2018 by Lukasz Juszczyk as not defined mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is shared at seclists.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-9490 since 11/21/2016. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 427 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 13202 (Zoho ManageEngine Applications Manager Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
