Details
A vulnerability was found in Midnight Coders WebORB for Java 5.1.1.0 (Programming Language Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown processing of the component AMF3 Deserializer. The manipulation as part of a Serialized Java Object leads to a deserialization vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The Java implementations of AMF3 deserializers in WebORB for Java by Midnight Coders, version 5.1.1.0, derive class instances from java.io.Externalizable rather than the AMF3 specification's recommendation of flash.utils.IExternalizable. A remote attacker with the ability to spoof or control an RMI server connection may be able to send serialized Java objects that execute arbitrary code when deserialized.
The bug was discovered 04/04/2017. The weakness was presented 06/11/2018 by Markus Wulftange as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-3207 since 12/05/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
