A vulnerability was found in Symantec AntiVirus (Anti-Malware Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component DEC2EXE Module UPX Parser. Heap-based buffer overflow in the DEC2EXE module for Symantec AntiVirus Library allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a UPX compressed file containing a negative virtual offset to a crafted PE header.
The bug was discovered 02/08/2005. The weakness was published 02/08/2005 by Alex Wheeler with rem0te.com (Website). The advisory is shared at sarc.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-0249 since 02/08/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
