A vulnerability was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been classified as problematic. In Wireshark 2.6.0 to 2.6.1, 2.4.0 to 2.4.7, and 2.2.0 to 2.2.15, the BGP protocol dissector could go into a large loop. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-bgp.c by validating Path Attribute lengths.
The bug was discovered 07/18/2018. The weakness was disclosed 07/19/2018 as Bug 13741 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-14342 since 07/17/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
