Affected by this vulnerability is the function SplashXPath::strokeAdjust of the file splash/SplashXPath.cc. The manipulation as part of a PDF File leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. SplashXPath::strokeAdjust in splash/SplashXPath.cc in Xpdf 4.00 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read) via a crafted pdf file, as demonstrated by pdftoppm.

The bug was discovered 08/22/2018. The weakness was released 09/03/2018 (GitHub Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-16368 since 09/02/2018. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
