Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Artifex Ghostscript up to 9.23 (Document Processing Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component Postscript Command Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Artifex Ghostscript before 9.24. The .setdistillerkeys PostScript command is accepted even though it is not intended for use during document processing (e.g., after the startup phase). This leads to memory corruption, allowing remote attackers able to supply crafted PostScript to crash the interpreter or possibly have unspecified other impact.
The bug was discovered 08/27/2018. The weakness was disclosed 09/06/2018 by Tavis Ormandy (Website). The advisory is available at git.ghostscript.com.
