The multicast listener discovery (MLD) service on Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) devices 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 before 7.4.121.0, and 7.5, when MLDv2 Snooping is enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (device restart) via a malformed IPv6 MLDv2 packet, aka Bug ID CSCuh74233.
The weakness was presented 03/05/2014 with Cisco as cisco-sa-20140305-wlc as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at tools.cisco.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-0705 since 01/02/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The advisory points out:
An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by submitting a malformed MLDv2 packet to a multicast-enabled network that the Cisco WLC is listening for. An exploit could allow the attacker to trigger a critical error on the WLC, resulting in a DoS condition while the device restarts.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73018 (Multiple Vulnerabilities in Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (cisco-sa-20140305-wlc)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at tools.cisco.com. Applying the patch cisco-sa-20140305-wlc is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at tools.cisco.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
