Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Wireshark up to 1.10.5 (Packet Analyzer Software). Affected is the function dissect_protocol_data_parameter of the file epan/dissectors/packet-m3ua.c of the component M3UA Dissector. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
The dissect_protocol_data_parameter function in epan/dissectors/packet-m3ua.c in the M3UA dissector in Wireshark 1.10.x before 1.10.6 does not properly allocate memory, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted SS7 MTP3 packet.
The weakness was released 03/07/2014 by Laurent Butti as wnpa-sec-2014-02 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at wireshark.org.
