An issue was discovered in Roche Accu-Chek Inform II Instrument before 03.06.00 (Serial number below 14000) and 04.x before 04.03.00 (Serial Number above 14000), CoaguChek Pro II before 04.03.00, and cobas h 232 before 04.00.04 (Serial number above KQ0400000 or KS0400000). Improper access control allows attackers in the adjacent network to change the instrument configuration.

The bug was discovered 11/06/2018. The weakness was presented 11/20/2018 by Niv Yehezkel with Medigate as ICSMA-18-310-01 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ics-cert.us-cert.gov. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2018-18564 since 10/22/2018. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.

Upgrading to version 03.01.04 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published before and not just after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
