A vulnerability was found in Wireshark up to 2.6.4 (Packet Analyzer Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the file epan/dissectors/packet-dcom.c of the component DCOM Dissector. The manipulation as part of a Packet leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. In Wireshark 2.6.0 to 2.6.4 and 2.4.0 to 2.4.10, the DCOM dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-dcom.c by adding '\0' termination.
The bug was discovered 11/27/2018. The weakness was disclosed 11/29/2018 by Mateusz Jurczyk (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-19626 since 11/28/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
