Details
A vulnerability was found in FreeRDP up to 2.0.0-rc3. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function gdi_Bitmap_Decompress. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
FreeRDP prior to version 2.0.0-rc4 contains an Integer Overflow that leads to a Heap-Based Buffer Overflow in function gdi_Bitmap_Decompress() and results in a memory corruption and probably even a remote code execution.
The bug was discovered 10/22/2018. The weakness was released 11/29/2018 (GitHub Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com.
