This affects the function prvCheckOptions of the component TCP Options Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Amazon Web Services (AWS) FreeRTOS through 1.3.1, FreeRTOS up to V10.0.1 (with FreeRTOS+TCP), and WITTENSTEIN WHIS Connect middleware TCP/IP component allow information disclosure during parsing of TCP options in prvCheckOptions.
The bug was discovered 10/18/2018. The weakness was released 12/06/2018 (GitHub Repository). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-16524 since 09/05/2018. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
