A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in LibRaw up to 0.18.6 (Image Processing Software). This issue affects the function LibRaw::unpack of the file src/libraw_cxx.cpp. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. An error within the "LibRaw::unpack()" function (src/libraw_cxx.cpp) in LibRaw versions prior to 0.18.7 can be exploited to trigger a NULL pointer dereference.
The bug was discovered 01/29/2018. The weakness was released 12/07/2018 by Laurent Delosieres with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is shared at access.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-5801 since 01/19/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
