A vulnerability has been found in Google Chrome up to 70.0.3538.110 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component WPAD File Handler. Lack of special casing of localhost in WPAD files in Google Chrome prior to 71.0.3578.80 allowed an attacker on the local network segment to proxy resources on localhost via a crafted WPAD file.
The bug was discovered 12/04/2018. The weakness was presented 12/11/2018 by Guang Gong with Qihoo 360 (Website). The advisory is available at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-18358 since 10/15/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 08/01/2024).
