Details
A vulnerability has been found in FasterXML jackson-databind up to 2.9.7 (Programming Language Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function axis2-transport-jms of the component Deserialization. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a deserialization vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-502. The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently verifying that the resulting data will be valid. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
FasterXML jackson-databind 2.x before 2.9.8 might allow attackers to have unspecified impact by leveraging failure to block the axis2-transport-jms class from polymorphic deserialization.
The bug was discovered 11/18/2018. The weakness was presented 01/02/2019 (GitHub Repository). It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2018-19360 since 11/19/2018. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 45 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
