A vulnerability has been found in Google Chrome (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Navigation. The manipulation as part of a HTML Page leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. A race condition between permission prompts and navigations in Prompts in Google Chrome prior to 69.0.3497.81 allowed a remote attacker to spoof the contents of the Omnibox (URL bar) via a crafted HTML page.
The bug was discovered 09/04/2018. The weakness was released 01/09/2019 by Natalie Silvanovich with Google Project Zero (Website). The advisory is available at chromereleases.googleblog.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2018-16079 since 08/29/2018. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
