Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.0.2 (Operating System). This issue affects the function inotify_update_existing_watch of the file fs/notify/inotify/inotify_user.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-399. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel through 5.0.2, the function inotify_update_existing_watch() in fs/notify/inotify/inotify_user.c neglects to call fsnotify_put_mark() with IN_MASK_CREATE after fsnotify_find_mark(), which will cause a memory leak (aka refcount leak). Finally, this will cause a denial of service.
The bug was discovered 03/11/2019. The weakness was disclosed 03/21/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-9857 since 03/18/2019. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally.
