A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Azure DevOps Server and Team Foundation Server (Programming Tool Software) (affected version not known). It has been rated as problematic. The bug was discovered 04/03/2019. The weakness was released 04/09/2019 by Mikhail as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-0866 since 11/26/2018. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project. The advisory points out:
A Cross-site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists when Azure DevOps Server and Team Foundation Server do not properly sanitize user provided input. An authenticated attacker could exploit the vulnerability by sending a specially crafted payload to an Azure DevOps server or a Team Foundation server, which will get executed in the context of the user every time a user visits the compromised page.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 91520 (Microsoft Team Foundation Server Update for April 2019).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
