Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apple Safari up to 7.0.3 (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown code of the component WebKit. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
WebKit, as used in Apple Safari before 6.1.4 and 7.x before 7.0.4, does not properly interpret Unicode encoding, which allows remote attackers to spoof a postMessage origin, and bypass intended restrictions on sending a message to a connected frame or window, via crafted characters in a URL.
The weakness was disclosed 05/21/2014 by Erling Ellingsen with Facebook as HT6254 / APPLE-SA-2014-05-21-1 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-1346 since 01/08/2014. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The advisory points out:
A malicious site can send messages to a connected frame or window in a way that might circumvent the receiver's origin check
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74139 (Mac OS X : Apple Safari < 6.1.4 / 7.0.4 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
