An issue was discovered on V-Zug Combi-Steam MSLQ devices before Ethernet R07 and before WLAN R05. Password authentication uses MD5 to hash passwords. Cracking is possible with minimal effort.
The bug was discovered 05/18/2018. The weakness was disclosed 09/30/2019 by Marc Ruef with scip AG as ID 134117 as confirmed entry (VulDB). The advisory is shared at vuldb.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with V-Zug. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-17216 since 10/06/2019. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available. Password authentication uses MD5 to has the passwords. Cracking such is possible with minimal effort.
A private exploit has been developed by Marc Ruef. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 500 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
Upgrading to version Ethernet R07 or WLAN R05 eliminates this vulnerability.
