A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in SGI IRIX up to 6.4 (Operating System). This affects some unknown processing of the component xfsdump. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. Vulnerability in xfsdump in SGI IRIX may allow local users to obtain root privileges via the bck.log log file, possibly via a symlink attack.
The issue has been introduced in 03/01/1993. The weakness was disclosed 05/07/1997 by Yuri Volobuev as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com.
