SGI MachineInfo CGI program, installed by default on some web servers, prints potentially sensitive system status information, which could be used by remote attackers for information gathering activities.
The issue has been introduced in 09/01/1996. The weakness was released 05/07/1997 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-1999-1067. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
