A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Windows up to Server 2019 (Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block in the library HTTP.sys of the component HTTP2 Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. Impacted is availability.
The weakness was published 08/13/2019 as confirmed security update guide (Website). The advisory is available at portal.msrc.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2019-9513 since 03/01/2019. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. A denial of service vulnerability exists in the HTTP/2 protocol stack (HTTP.sys) when HTTP.sys improperly parses specially crafted HTTP/2 requests. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could create a denial of service condition, causing the target system to become unresponsive.
