A vulnerability was found in Skype up to 1.1.0.20 on Linux (Unified Communication Software). It has been rated as critical. Skype 1.1.0.20 and earlier allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files via a symlink attack on the skype_profile.jpg temporary file.
The bug was discovered 07/18/2005. The weakness was presented 07/15/2005 by Giovanni Delvecchio with Zone-H Security Team (Website). The advisory is shared for download at zone-h.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-2300 since 07/19/2005. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
