Internet Explorer 5.5 and earlier does not properly verify the domain of a frame within a browser window, which allows remote web site operators to read certain files on the client by sending information from a local frame to a frame in a different domain, aka a variant of the "Frame Domain Verification" vulnerability.
The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was shared 06/27/2001 as MS01-027 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at microsoft.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-0246. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
