A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in SGI IRIX 6.5.5/6.5.8 (Operating System). This affects an unknown code block of the file rpc.espd of the component Embedded Support Partner Daemon. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Buffer overflow in Embedded Support Partner (ESP) daemon (rpc.espd) in IRIX 6.5.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands.
The weakness was presented 05/07/2001 by ISS X-Force Research (ERNE) with X-Force as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2001-0331. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
