A vulnerability has been found in OpenBSD OpenSSH 4.0 (Connectivity Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component Dynamic Port Forwarding. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. OpenSSH 4.0, and other versions before 4.2, does not properly handle dynamic port forwarding ("-D" option) when a listen address is not provided, which may cause OpenSSH to enable the GatewayPorts functionality.
The bug was discovered 09/02/2005. The weakness was presented 09/02/2005 with OpenBSD Team (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at openbsd.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-2797 since 09/06/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at ftp.openbsd.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
