A vulnerability was found in OpenBSD OpenSSH 4.5 (Connectivity Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file login.conf of the component libutil. libutil in OpenSSH on FreeBSD 4.4 and earlier does not drop privileges before verifying the capabilities for reading the copyright and welcome files, which allows local users to bypass the capabilities checks and read arbitrary files by specifying alternate copyright or welcome files.
The bug was discovered 09/20/2001. The weakness was shared 09/20/2001 by Przemyslaw Frasunek (Website). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com.
