Heap-based buffer overflow in Firefox before 1.0.7 and Mozilla Suite before 1.7.12 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an XBM image file that ends in a large number of spaces instead of the expected end tag.
The weakness was published 09/23/2005 by Georgi Guninski as MFSA2005-58 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-2701 since 08/26/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k.
