A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5/6.0 (Web Browser). This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Domain Security Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 allows remote attackers to bypass the cross-domain security model and access information on the local system or in other domains, and possibly execute code, via cached methods and objects, aka "Cross Domain Verification via Cached Methods."
The issue has been introduced in 07/08/2000. The weakness was shared 12/11/2002 by GreyMagic as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.info. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-1254. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
