A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Apple QuickTime 7.0/7.0.1/7.0.2/7.0.3 (Multimedia Player Software). This affects an unknown code block of the component QTIF Image Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. Heap-based buffer overflow in Apple Quicktime before 7.0.4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted (1) QuickTime Image File (QTIF), (2) PICT, or (3) JPEG format image with a long data field.
The weakness was published 01/11/2006 by Varun Uppal with Kanbay (Website). The advisory is shared at docs.info.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-2340 since 07/21/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
